About the Location
The town of Sozopol is one of the most popular seaside resorts and also one of the oldest towns on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. It is situated on a picturesque peninsula in the southern part of the Burgas Bay, approximately 35 km from Burgas. Among the biggest events in Sozopol are the Apollonia art festival, held from September 1st to 10th, and the July celebrations known as Julaya, which take place on the night of June 30th to July 1st.
Sozopol has two beaches – the central beach and Harmani. Nearby are also the beaches at the Zlatna Ribka and Kavatsi campsites.
The town is divided into old and new parts. The Old Town is popular for romantic strolls through cobbled streets and past old houses that transport visitors back in time from medieval Sozopolis to the era of ancient Apollonia. The new part of the town features many hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues. Various water sports can be enjoyed on the beaches, such as jet skiing, surfing, beach volleyball, boat trips, or fishing.
To the south, nearby, is also the Ropotamo Nature Reserve, which includes the estuary of the river of the same name. Visitors can take boat trips along the river and observe interesting species of birds and plants.
